"And how do you intend to find a solution to this problem?" Dr APJ Abdul Kalam asks the young boys and girls of India. Everyone in the audience is stunned. They are emotionally charged but unable to provide a befitting reply. And Dr Kalam then shares his vision 2020 with all of them and suddenly everything begins to make sense.
Sounds like a riddle? Yes, it does. Allow me to tell you the context.
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam has made a very pertinent observation in his book 'Ignited Minds'. He says that India was under British control for a very long period. And a very big majority had started to accept the situation as a must-be. Then in the year 1857, they first saw the dream of free India. Every Indian started to desire freedom and strive for it. It took a poor and oppressed nation 90 years to achieve that vision. But the bottom line is very clear. If everybody has a common vision, a nation is able to realize it sooner or later.
Dr Kalam then asks, "And what is the vision today? What is it that we are trying to achieve? If freedom from the British inspired every Indian from 1857 onwards, do we have any such burning desire today?" And he goes on to say that absence of any such common cause or vision only is the biggest problem before us. When an entire nation does not know where to go, where would it go? Nowhere is the only possible answer. And this is the pressing problem of today, feels Dr Kalam.
The situation can be compared with many travellers walking here and there with no destination in sight. They walk daily, sometimes they come back, sometimes they take random turns and as a result they never reach anywhere. As a nation, what do we intend to achieve? It's a pity that the vision is not clear.
Many business schools teach Goal Setting to their students. Nearly all the companies begin with a mission statement. What about our national vision?
Dr Kalam has definitely blessed us with a very good vision document by way of his book Vision 2020. A number of people, who went through the visionary exhortation, have appreciated the same. But i do not want to share the gist of the same here. Rather i want to throw this question open here. What should be the driving force for India today? Can you please express yourself in not more than one sentence? I hope this may lead us somewhere.
Let your vision for mother India be visible here, continuously.

Hello Sir,
Awesome Post! Very inspiring and thought provoking. Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam has mentioned a list of things for his vision 2020. His vision, according to me, more over leads to path of development i.e. from a developing nation to a developed nation.
Vision can be 'India-Developed nation' but it's calls for humongous eforts and as Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam has mentioned in his small steps which we should take to walk on this path of development.

I think, to have one vision for a country like India (like India as a developed nation by 2020)is not possible to achieve until we understand and accomplish the smaller goals which can lead to accomplishment of larger vision. India as a country is very large and a home to so many diversified cultures, ideologies and people. To accomplish a large vision of developed nation, we first need to achieve fractional goals like regional development. To put it in more proper format, I would like to say that inclusive growth should always be a mission for India to accomplish its vision. Though it sounds little abstract but resources should be mobilized in the direction of inclusive growth. Unless we will put effort on regional development, we can't achieve vision 2020.......

Respcted Sir,
This is a really fantastic post by you. I have also noticed that we are running without any direction. For example we talk about curbing corruption on one hand, and on other hand try to get a discount in challan, when caught by an traffic policeman. When it comes to our personal interest, whether its monetory or something else, we forget about those big resolutions for that moment.
The condition of our nation is pathetic.
Thank you sir for sharing such heart provoking posts with us.

REally inspiring post sir...
every one has there own different selfish desires but they dsnt contributes to our nation.
"what is the vision today? What is it that we are trying to achieve?" untill and unless we dont find answers of these questions we will be unaware about our "BURNING DESIRES"...
In my views 'VISION 2020'... "DEVELOPED NATION WITH SOUND ECONOMY"

Dear Sir,
Greetings!
For 'Mother India any vision has no meaning until and unless she has reached at a level where she has enough food to feed her children! Thus, talking of any development on the ground of neglecting the basic needs is not a good idea, for which 'Mother India' is still struggling.
As per my opinion the "Call of the hour" is to do efforts to make 'Mother India' healthy by feeding her (children) hunger and wealthy by literate youth.

Warm Greetings Sir!
Wonderful post Sir.
After attending the thought povoking & eye opening session by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam at IIM-Indore, recently, i believe having a developed nation with all facets at its end is great; but what the real strength lies in; is- being trustworthy, credible, loyal, embibed with the needed values.
Hereby, making sure of two things to create a strong base & ultimately a strong nation:First; having a strong government with a good legal system, & Second; atleast a basic-level education should be compulsorily available to all.
I think so; because "Its education which is & will always be a differentiator; & one of the reasons for either the success or failure of 'India' ahead."
